Congenital Duodenal Atresia

Abstract
Duodenal atersia in the new born is an uncommon congenital anomaly which, may be the result of a )iypoplasia or primary developmental defect during the 8th to 10th week of fetal life.
Vomiting is the first and most characteristic symptom.. of duodenal atresia. The vomiting usually starte the first day of life and the green color or the vomitus¢¥ is its most important feature. The diagnosis of duodenal atresia can be confirmed by an upright x-ray of the abdomen demonstrating the "double air bubble" appearance. It is best treated not by excision but with a bypass procedure such as duodeno-jejunostomy.
Careful attention to the technical advances which have evolved over the past 20 years and meticulous operative and postoperative care should result in a steadily improving survival rate.
